8-12 Weeks Before Moving Day

• The earlier you start your planning, the better. First, you need to go into every room and make a list of all the inventory which is present in your home.
• After that, separate your inventory from things that are important, things you need to throw away, and things you need to sell or donate. During this, separate all your invoices, contacts, and other important things in one place.
• Reach out to moving companies and get their quotes and information. It is advisable to at least look for three companies and compare their prices and services. Also, check for their feedback and insurance coverage.
• Make sure that the new place you are moving to is completely functional, including electrical work, plumbing, and other factors, which will be of use after moving.
• Also, make a map of your inventory and plan where you will use the furniture or other things in your new place. Planning beforehand saves time and energy when the moment comes.

6-7 Weeks Before Moving Day

• When you have found a moving company, agree on the terms, sign a contract for the day of your move, and manage the important things that you need to move. Also, take photos in case of insurance claims.
• If your move involves an overnight stay, then it is essential that you book hotels and flights for the day of your journey.
• Suppose you are on rent, then it’s better to give the notice period to the landlord during this time also, if you have kids, apply for their transfer to the schools in your new place.
• Start packing the things which you don’t use often. Things like extra blankets, extra sheets, and anything you have spare should be packed first, along with important things.
• If you have pets, then it’s essential to get the insurance and vaccination certification from your vet, which will be helpful in your new place.

4-5 Weeks Before Moving Day

• At this time, it is essential to inform your friends, loved ones and your employers about your move. Also inform your bank, utility companies and other legal affairs to update your new address and branch.
• Double-check with the moving company you hired to confirm the date. This can save you from having any disturbance on the day of moving.
• Double-check all your packing. Make sure all your important documents like bank cards, birth certificates, medical certificates, passports and financial records are in one place.
• Pack your daily usage things and keep them separate, as they will be of use in your new place.
• If you have infant kids or pets, then you will probably need a babysitter to look after them on your moving day. You can also ask for help from your friends to move.

2-3 Weeks Before Moving Day

• In these weeks, you need to mark each box with the inventory names so that it won’t be difficult to unbox.
• Don’t buy groceries which will go to waste. Buy only essential groceries which can last for a few days till the move.
• Dispose of any materials which can’t be transported and arrange for a cleaning service or plan to do it yourself. Make the place clean for new tenants, as it leaves a good impression about you.
• Finalise all your utility bills and other pending finances. As you won’t be coming back again, it’s better to even your odds and dues.
